Luxury Retail Store

ASL design studio designed the space for the Judith Leiber retail store in Panama City. They put emphasis on the merchendise in the store, while disolving the architecture. Using lighting techniquest to focus the casework and sign, the all glass storefront allows potential customers to see the luxurious goods from the outside. The interior is very elegent and accents of tile compliment the rich colour pallete. Even from outside you get the impression that the store is an expensive, high end retail store. Retail is one of ASL’s “niche’s” and it really shows in its stunning beauty that meets the clients needs as well as customers.  This store is one that catches your eye as you walk by and ASL did a impressive job to help put the store “on the map”. I know i would be intrigued to go into the store (if i had that kinda money).

If you compare ASL’s duty free retail stores to the Judith Leiber store, they couldn’t be more opposite as far as its style goes, general feeling and how people are going to interact within the stores. By comparing the two, it really shows the companies diversity and flexibility to be able to design for anyone. You can tell that the duty free stores are aimed for the general public and can satisfy everyones needs, while at Judith Leibers retail store, its styled for the more specific crowd, the more “high end” population. The materials selected feel alot more luxurious and sophisticated compared to those at the duty free stores.

Tony Sacco’s Coal Oven Pizza

ASL developed the original concept for the Tony Sacco’s Coal Oven Pizza restaurants. The design focuses on the views different customers have on the warm glow of the oven, while also highlighting the bar. Different people view things differently so with each interpretation of the warm glow of the oven creates different kinds of emotion and feeling in the space. The different ceiling plains clearly defines the bar area from the pizza or food area, or the 2 wings. The bar is more open and inviting, while the kitchen area at the back is more enclosed or private with the ovens being the main feature. Instead of hiding the kitchen from the rest of the restaurant, they kept it visible to the public so the warmth of the ovens heats the space and adds to the feeling of the atmosphere. The warm colour scheme is welcoming and makes you feel comfortable, makes you want to sit and relax while you enjoy your pizza and drink. Dark charcoal colours in stone-like materials represent the coal in the oven. I get the impression that this restaurant is a more casual or fast food like place by the arrangement of the table and chairs. There doesn’t seem to be much privacy between different parties.

Timber Frame Home

ASL has designed several custom homes in the Michigan area and other states. This particular home was influenced by the natural beauty of timber and its strength to support the structure. With the use of the organic, natural material it connects the interior with its surrounding environment and also makes the home environmentally friendly. The impressive living space is accented by the beautiful wood cathedral ceilings and large windows. The space feels very luxurious and comfortable, and with the grand cathedral ceiling, it definitely creates interest and inspire the people in the space.

The ASL Team

The staff is composed of experienced, talented professionals with a young edge that come together to create many vibrant, innovative design projects. A majority of the employee’s have over ten years of knowledge and practice. Each individual brings different areas of expertise to the firm that stem from several design and technical backgrounds. Combine all those great qualities with the latest technologies, and ASL is able to produce inspired, creative results that can be seen in three dimensional models or virtual walkthroughs. They have worked on projects nationally and internationally, ranging from graphic proposals to constructed buildings. ASL is a studio of creative designers that love their work. “Design is who [they] are.”

“Since 1990, the ASL studio has been producing projects that meet clients’ needs. From small local projects to multi-million dollar international developments, the ASL team has the talent to provide innovative designs that help our clients get on the map.”

I love how diverse the company as a whole is. Each employee brings something new to the table. With their team, they are able produce designs or solutions for literally any project they come across. Whether it’s big or small, they treat every client the same. The client can have full confidence that with every employee’s qualifications and unique style, they will get a final product that is not only structurally sound, but aesthetically appealing as well. I also like how ASL uses the best and newest technology to communicate as well as possible with their clients. The relationship with the clients and themselves are important to them, so through the 3 dimensional graphics they are able to present a design that is very clear to understand, they also present them with several different options to choose from that best suits the company, region, or needs.
